Install the Azure DevOps Migration Tools on Windows using your preferred method

Option 1: Winget

Recommended for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. Simple one-command installation.

Command:
winget install nkdAgility.AzureDevOpsMigrationTools
Installation Details:
  • Installs to %Localappdata%\Microsoft\WinGet\Packages\
  • Creates symbolic link for devopsmigration command
  • Run from anywhere using devopsmigration init
Note: Do not install using an elevated command prompt!

Option 2: Chocolatey

Perfect for Windows Server environments and automated deployments.

Command:
choco install vsts-sync-migrator
Installation Details:
  • Installs to C:\Tools\MigrationTools\
  • Automatically added to system PATH
  • Run using devopsmigration.exe

Option 3: Manual

Download and extract to any folder of your choice. Full control over installation location.

Steps:
  1. Download the latest release (zip file)
  2. Extract to your preferred folder
  3. Run devopsmigration.exe from the folder
Tip: You may need to 'unlock' the downloaded archive. Right-click → Properties → Unblock before extracting.
